Why isn't pick up truck popular in China?
Pick up truck is one of the most popular vehicle in the world.It keeps its flag flying for more than 50 years. By contrast, the Chinese pick up truck market presents a very weak state in its domestic. Most Chinese people even don't know what pick up truck looks like. Take me as a sample, before i enter the pickup truck accessory industry, I only heard pick up truck on the American movies, but I have never seen a pick-up truck in my city ( a city with 10 million population) .
So why does pick up truck encounter such a awkward situation in Chinese domestic automobile market ?
Pick up truck first appeared on the 80's in China. The earlier basic pick up truck is controverted on the basis of light truck and it is equipped with the low-end diesel engine. Thus, the pick up truck is divided into the COMMERCIAL TRUCK/LORRY category incorrectly in the Chinese automobile category.
According to China's Road Traffic Safety Law , most of the middle and big cities take action to confine the commercial truck on the road in peak hours or at the specific area as a solution to traffic congestions and exhaust emission. It means commercial truck is not allowed to enter the road in most of the time. Since pick up truck is divided into Commercial truck category, accordingly it is not allowed to get to the road in the urban. Chinese consumers have to give up the pick up truck market. This is the most important and top reason why pick up truck is not popular in China.
However, pick up truck is really a practical and cool transportation tools for consumers. People always have ways to overcome all the difficulties. If you install a tonneau cover or canopy on your pick up truck bed, you can drive your pick up truck in your city freely.
